# Quickstart

> Make a request from your server.

1. Sign in at [socialquery.dev](https://socialquery.dev/auth/login).
2. Create an API key under **Dashboard → API keys**. Copy it when it is displayed and store it in your secret manager.
3. Set `SOCIALQUERY_API_KEY` in your shell or server environment.

```bash theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body 'https://socialquery.dev/v1/hackernews/search?query=developer%20tools' \
  -H "x-api-key: $SOCIALQUERY_API_KEY"
```

Inspect the HTTP status, `success`, and `data`. Keep the `X-Request-Id` header for support. Provider failures return an error envelope and refund the request's credits. An unavailable endpoint returns HTTP 503.

Public website testing requires Cloudflare Turnstile verification. Server API calls use API key authentication and do not need Turnstile.
