# Errors and limits

> Handle failures without treating them as empty data.

| HTTP status | Meaning | Action |
| - | - | - |
| 401 | Missing, invalid, revoked, or expired API key | Check the key |
| 402 | Insufficient credits | Check the balance |
| 403 | Scope or access denied | Check key scope and endpoint access |
| 404 | Endpoint or resource not found | Verify the path and identifier |
| 405 | Wrong HTTP method | Use the method in the reference |
| 409 | Idempotency conflict or request in progress | Retry the original request later |
| 422 | Invalid or unsupported parameters | Correct the inputs |
| 429 | Request limit reached | Wait before retrying |
| 503 | Provider or required service unavailable | Retry later or contact support |

The default authenticated limit is 60 requests per minute per API key. Public website testing has separate per-visitor and global limits. Limits can be tighter upstream. Never treat a failed request as a successful empty collection.
